1.5 Types of AI (Narrow, General, Super)

AI is often grouped into three types by capability. Narrow AI (or weak AI) is built for one specific task — like translation or face unlock — and this is the only type that exists today. General AI (AGI) would match a human across any task, and Super AI would surpass human ability in nearly everything. The last two are still hypothetical.

Every AI you use today — a chatbot, a recommendation feed, a maps route, a spam filter — is Narrow AI. Even a very impressive chatbot is narrow: it handles language tasks but cannot, on its own, drive a car or feel emotions.
