Work & jobs
In this lesson you will learn to talk about work in Chinese — to say what your job is, to ask other people what they do, and to name a few common workplaces. You will meet useful words like 工作 (work / job), 老师 (teacher) and 公司 (company). This is helpful when you meet new people in Addis Ababa or talk about your day at the office.
你做什么工作?
nǐ zuò shénme gōngzuò?
ምን ሥራ ትሠራለህ?
我是老师，在学校工作
wǒ shì lǎoshī, zài xuéxiào gōngzuò
እኔ መምህር ነኝ፣ በትምህርት ቤት እሠራለሁ
她在公司工作
tā zài gōngsī gōngzuò
እርሷ በኩባንያ ትሠራለች
我的工作很忙，但是我很喜欢
wǒ de gōngzuò hěn máng, dànshì wǒ hěn xǐhuan
ሥራዬ በጣም ሥራ-በዛ ነው፣ ግን በጣም እወደዋለሁ
阿贝贝是医生，他在医院工作。他的工作很忙，但是他很喜欢。早上他喝一杯咖啡，然后去医院。他的妻子阿尔玛兹是老师，在学校工作。她每天教孩子们。星期六他们不工作。他们在市场买英吉拉和咖啡，在家里休息。阿贝贝说：「我很喜欢我的工作，也很喜欢周末。」
To say a job is busy, use 忙 (máng, busy): 我很忙 = "I am very busy". To join a happy contrast, use 但是 (dànshì, but): 工作很忙，但是我喜欢 = "Work is busy, but I like it". Remember 喜欢 (xǐhuan) = to like.
