Directions & getting around
In this lesson you will learn to ask where a place is and to give simple directions in Chinese — go straight, turn left, turn right. You will also learn position words like 左边 (left side) and 右边 (right side), and how to ask 怎么走 (how do I get there?). This is useful when you are lost in Addis Ababa or looking for the market.
请问，市场在哪儿?
qǐngwèn, shìchǎng zài nǎr?

往前走，然后往左拐
wǎng qián zǒu, ránhòu wǎng zuǒ guǎi

阿贝贝是新来的，他不知道路。他问萨拉：「请问，市场在哪儿?」萨拉说：「不远，很近。你往前走，到红绿灯往右拐。市场在你的左边，在银行的旁边。」阿贝贝说谢谢。他往前走，往右拐，看见了市场。他买了咖啡和英吉拉。回家的时候，他没有迷路。
Start a polite question with 请问 (qǐngwèn, "may I ask"). To link two steps, use 然后 (ránhòu, "then"): 往前走，然后往右拐 = "Go straight, then turn right". Remember: 左 (zuǒ) = left, 右 (yòu) = right.
