Future plans

Goal: talk about your future plans and intentions using 'going to' and 'will', and add time words like 'tomorrow' and 'next week' to say exactly when things will happen.

Tomorrow I am going to visit my aunt in Addis Ababa.

ነገ በአዲስ አበባ ያለች አክስቴን ልጎበኝ ነው።

Next week Almaz is going to start a new job at the market.

ባለፈው ሳምንት ሳይሆን በሚቀጥለው ሳምንት አልማዝ በገበያ አዲስ ሥራ ልትጀምር ነው።

Do not worry, I will help you carry the injera.

አትጨነቅ፣ እንጀራውን እንድትሸከም እረዳሃለሁ።

Quick tip: if the plan is already decided, use 'going to'. If you decide right now while you speak, use 'will'. Both look to the future, so a time word like 'tomorrow' or 'next week' makes your meaning clear.

Dawit and his sister Hanna are making plans for next week. Dawit is going to travel to Addis Ababa on Monday, because he has an important meeting at his office. He has already bought the bus ticket, so the plan is fixed. Hanna is going to stay at home and study, because she has an exam next Friday. "Don't worry," Dawit says, "I will call you every evening, and I will bring you a small gift from the city." Hanna smiles and answers, "Thank you. I think I will need a new book for school, so maybe you will find one in the market there." On Sunday they are going to drink buna together one last time before Dawit leaves. They both believe next week is going to be busy, but good.
