1.3 Greetings (Les salutations)

French greetings come in two styles: formal (people you don't know, elders, work) and informal (friends and family). 'Bonjour' (hello / good day) works for everyone, any daytime. 'Salut' means 'hi' and is only for friends. In the evening, say 'Bonsoir'.
