1.27 The Past Tense (Le passé composé)

To say what you did, French uses the 'passé composé': a helper verb (usually avoir) + a past participle. J'ai mangé (I ate / I have eaten), tu as parlé (you spoke), il a travaillé (he worked). For -er verbs the participle ends in -é: parler → parlé.
