Future plans

In this lesson you will talk about your future plans in German. You will learn two ways to speak about the future: the Futur with werden plus an infinitive (Ich werde nach Addis Abeba fahren), and the simpler present tense together with a time expression (Morgen fahre ich nach Addis Abeba). You will also practise useful time words such as morgen (tomorrow), nächste Woche (next week) and bald (soon).

Nächste Woche werde ich nach Addis Abeba fahren.

የሚቀጥለው ሳምንት ወደ አዲስ አበባ እሄዳለሁ።

Morgen kaufe ich frisches Gemüse auf dem Markt.

ነገ ገበያ ላይ ትኩስ አትክልት እገዛለሁ።

Bald werde ich eine neue Arbeit suchen.

በቅርቡ አዲስ ሥራ እፈልጋለሁ።

Nächstes Jahr wird Almaz an der Universität studieren.

በሚቀጥለው ዓመት አልማዝ በዩኒቨርሲቲ ትማራለች።

Heute Abend werden wir zusammen Kaffee trinken.

ዛሬ ማታ አብረን ቡና እንጠጣለን።

Sara wohnt in Addis Abeba und hat große Pläne für die Zukunft. Nächste Woche wird sie eine kleine Prüfung schreiben, deshalb lernt sie jeden Abend zu Hause. Wenn sie die Prüfung besteht, wird sie nächstes Jahr an der Universität Informatik studieren. Morgen geht sie zuerst auf den Markt und kauft frisches Gemüse und Kaffee, denn am Wochenende kommen ihre Freunde Dawit und Hanna zu Besuch. Sie werden zusammen Injera essen und über ihre Pläne sprechen. Dawit sagt, er wird bald eine neue Arbeit in einem Geschäft suchen, und Hanna möchte später ein eigenes kleines Café eröffnen. Sara ist sicher: In ein paar Jahren werden sie alle ihre Träume erreichen.

Recap: Futur = werden (in second position) + infinitive at the end: Ich werde studieren. Or simply use the present tense with a time word: Morgen lerne ich. After a time word, the verb stays second and the subject follows: Nächste Woche schreibe ich eine Prüfung. Key time words: morgen (tomorrow), heute Abend (this evening), nächste Woche (next week), nächstes Jahr (next year), bald (soon).
