Technology & the internet

In this lesson you will talk about technology and the internet in German and discuss the advantages (Vorteile) and disadvantages (Nachteile) of being online. The grammar focus is the simple passive (das Passiv): wird + Partizip II, for example „Das Handy wird benutzt“ (The phone is used). In the passive the action is in the spotlight, while the person who does it is often left out. You will learn words like das Handy, der Computer, das Internet, die App, herunterladen and speichern, and you will practise sentences such as: Die E-Mail wird sofort gesendet.

Das Handy wird jeden Tag benutzt.

ስልኩ በየቀኑ ይጠቀማል።

Die App wird kostenlos heruntergeladen.

መተግበሪያው በነፃ ይወርዳል።

Im Internet werden viele Informationen schnell gefunden.

Heute wird das Internet in Addis Abeba von vielen jungen Leuten genutzt. Hanna sagt, dass ihr Leben durch das Handy leichter wird: Nachrichten werden sofort gesendet, der Weg zum Markt wird auf einer Karte gezeigt, und der Preis von einem Kilo Buna wird schnell online verglichen. Es gibt aber auch Nachteile. Manchmal wird zu viel Zeit mit Apps verbracht, und private Fotos werden ohne Erlaubnis geteilt. Kebede erklärt seiner Schwester, dass ein gutes Passwort gewählt werden muss und dass wichtige Dateien immer gespeichert werden sollen. Am Abend, wenn die Familie zusammen Injera isst, wird das Handy zur Seite gelegt, weil das Gespräch wichtiger ist. So werden die Vorteile der Technik genutzt, ohne dass die Nachteile das Leben bestimmen.
