Common verbs & “to be”
In this lesson you will learn the two words for "to be" in Brazilian Portuguese: ser and estar. You will also learn common verbs: ter (to have), ir (to go) and querer (to want).
Eu sou Abebe.
eu sô a-BÉ-be
እኔ አበበ ነኝ።
Eu estou bem.
eu es-TÔ bãy
ደህና ነኝ።
Eu tenho birr.
eu TÉ-nho bir
ብር አለኝ።
Eu vou ao mercado.
eu vô au mer-KÁ-do
ወደ ገበያ እሄዳለሁ።
Eu quero um café.
eu KÉ-ro um ka-FÉ
አንድ ቡና እፈልጋለሁ።
Almaz é de Adis Abeba. Ela está no mercado hoje. Ela tem birr e quer comprar café e pão. "Eu estou bem", ela diz. Dawit também está no mercado. Ele é amigo de Almaz. Eles vão tomar um café juntos.
Remember: ser = who you are (Eu sou...), estar = how/where you are now (Eu estou...). ter = to have, ir = to go, querer = to want.
